Electric Toothbrushes, My Thoughts on Switching!

Electric Toothbrushes the cariPRO toothbrush from Smile Brilliant

Brushing your teeth is something we all do on a regular basis, much like sleeping. And yet, although we had no problem paying the extra money for a good mattress to sleep on I always found myself balking when it came to electric toothbrushes. There is no doubt that they can be pricy and were the benefits truly worth it? Honestly, I had no idea! When I was approached by Smile Brilliant (who I had a great experience working with before) about giving one of their new products a try I was more than happy to receive a cariPRO Ultrasonic!

Manual or Electric Toothbrushes?

I’ve always used manual toothbrushes. I’ll admit that this was less because I thought they were better and more because I couldn’t really justify the cost in my head.  I mean, are they really that much better? The cariPRO Ultrasonic promises to remove 7x more plaque than a manual toothbrush, improve gum health in 2 weeks and whiten your teeth as it does so. These are bold claims but since Smile Brilliant offers free shipping and a 60-day risk-free trial with free return shipping if you’re not happy then what do you have to lose? Honestly, even if I hadn’t received this toothbrush as a promotional gift, with all of that in mind, I probably would have given it a try!

The claims make sense when you think about it. There is no way a manual toothbrush can duplicate the movements that an electric brush can. Faster, shorter multi-directional strokes would definitely be an advantage when it comes to removing plaque. In the end, good oral health is probably worth more long term then saving a few dollars by using a cheaper toothbrush. Dental work is expensive!

If you haven’t figured it out by now – I’m REALLY happy that Smile Brilliant reached out to me and gave me the option to give the cariPRO a try!

So what is the cariPRO really?

The cariPRO is an electric toothbrush from Smile Brilliant, a company that also offers custom teeth whitening trays. The brush offers 5 different modes – clean, whiten, massage, gum care & sensitive. Personally, I use the sensitive setting the most! The cariPRO also happens to be waterproof which is great for those of you who like to brush in the shower or just as a safety precaution. I know I’ve dropped my manual in a sink of water more than once for various reasons.

One of the things I was concerned about when considering the switch to electric toothbrushes was the charge time. I can leave it parked on the charger while at home but our lifestyle has been changing recently and we’ve actually been traveling a bit more then we used to take family vacations or attend running events. Did I really want yet another charger to remember (and then forget) when we traveled? Not. At. All. Thankfully this electric toothbrush boasts a 30 day charge time and I have been using it religiously now for about 2 and a half weeks without charging it so it’s looking like that claim is pretty good!

That said, the charger is pretty small. If you did have to (or prefer) to travel with it, it wouldn’t be all that bothersome. The docking station does make a nice place to store it on the counter too.

What were your initial thoughts?

I have to admit that the first time I used the cariPRO electric toothbrush I wasn’t sure I would like it. I think I just had to get used to the feel. The vibrations were a bit odd! That said it wasn’t unpleasant or bothersome just..differant. And, after a few times of using it, I didn’t really notice anymore.

I also had to learn to turn it on after putting it in my mouth. Do you know what happens to toothpaste if you turn an electric toothbrush on before putting it in your mouth? It gets flung all over the place that’s what! My kids thought this was hilarious but they also laugh at fart jokes so take that as you will. I did like the timing feature, there is a slight pause every 30 seconds to let you know it’s time to move to a different section of your mouth. This means that I get the optimal brushing time for each section every time I brush which is great when I’m in a hurry and prone to rushing through things.

As far as cleaning goes I do have to say that the cariPRO does a pretty great job. Although I always felt my manual toothbrush did a fine job the electric toothbrush does it much better. My teeth not only feel cleaner but look cleaner too and although I’m not a dentist it’s enough of a difference for me to notice.

Am I going to keep using it?

Yes! In fact, I think I will order some extra toothbrush replacement heads (and eventually a second brush) so that my husband can have one too! I have a feeling this brush will last quite a while and the replacement heads aren’t that expensive so I expect over time the cost of a second brush would even out.

  1. Thanks for the info! I use an electric at home but when I travel I prefer having a manual brush for some reason

It makes some sense, I expect it would be far less traumatic to forget a manual brush in the hotel room then your expensive electric one!
