Earth day is one of my favorite days of the year. A whole day where people are filled with thoughts of nature and the wonder of our world. It is a day that should be repeated several times throughout the year in my opinion.  Even better, taking care of our world should just be commonplace in and of itself. It is certainly a value that I have tried to instill in my own children and today’s Earth Day fun was a great excuse for some family bonding time. Getting your kids to eat their vegetables is like trying to get my dog in the bathtub – sure it will happen but there will be a few bumps along the way. Both of my kids are good eaters, the problem is that they want to eat all the wrong things. Zoe is a carnivore who devours all things meat and Brooke..well Brooke has a sweet tooth. Neither of these eating habits is particularly healthy and I’ve been struggling for a long time to find vegetables my kids will eat without a fight. Imagine my surprise when they turned their noses up at Acorn SquashRead More →

Our family spends a lot of time together. I can probably count on one hand the number of times my husband and I have been without the kids. However, I can’t deny that I get to spend more time with them then he does. Since I am a stay at home mom I get to spend all day with them in the summers and on holidays while my husband works. By necessity, he sometimes misses out on fun activities and special moments. I try to capture it on video or in photos, but it’s not really the same. It’s a sacrifice he makes to support usRead More →

When I was younger I was always working. As a teenager, I often had several jobs at once and from high school onwards I bought my own clothes, my own school supplies and paid for the upkeep of my own animals. It was busy and hectic and I gave up a lot of social activities to do it all but I liked it. I liked the independence of providing for myself. When I met my husband and moved south I transitioned into being a stay at home mom. Making money as a stay at home mom proved to be a bit more difficult. The journey backRead More →

Easter fun

When it comes to Easter, our family tends to keep things simple. We don’t go all out on a big fancy dinner or spend a fortune on gifts. Easter fun for our family is more about spending time together then spending money. While I enjoy the large-scale celebrations of the other holidays sometime’s it’s nice to have a simple holiday to look forward to. A holiday that is low key and stress-free with plenty of family fun and quality time. Easter celebrations in our family start the day before with Egg dyeing. Dyeing eggs can be messy, especially with young kids who don’t have theRead More →

When we first moved into our house the bathroom decor was a bit..bland. Everything was beige, black and white. Thankfully, even with a limited budget, it was not too hard to jazz it up a little bit. The first step was thinking of a theme for the room. With a bit of discussion, we finally settled on a beach/marine theme. We choose this for several reasons. First of all the colors, blue and shell shades can really make a room feel soothing and calm, perfect for a bathroom. Secondly, beach themes are popular when it comes to bathrooms so I knew it would be relativelyRead More →

When we are little kids we are told to follow your dreams. It is a goal that seems achievable, sure, it might be a long way off. It might seem hard, but there is a small spark of hope deep inside which tells us that anything is possible. It’s a part of being young, of knowing that your whole life is spread out before you. When we are little we cannot wait to grow up so that we can do all the things we dream of doing. And then we grow up. And then we start to lose that hope. Somewhere through the years asRead More →

A picture of a DIY coat Rack

I think we all have those spots in our homes. You know the ones. Those places where mess seems to pile up and …breed. There’s really no other way to put it. The piles start as one item and sometime between the last time you looked at it and when you stumbled over it just now you find its doubled or even tripled in size. In my home, one of those spots was just inside the door. Since our house doesn’t have a closet for shoes and coats the kids would come home from school, kick off the shoes, throw down the coats and leave.Read More →
