I am always looking for ways to save money and this is especially true for our food costs. Feeding a family of four can be pricy! My attempts to save money on the grocery bill have taken many forms over the years ranging from couponing to list-making & budgeting! We have cut out junk food and recently, thanks to our homesteading journey turned to hunting and raising our own meat. Of course, growing our own garden would be a great way to reduce our vegetable costs at the grocery store… but our garden is not yet producing and it’s going to take some time beforeRead More →

Sausage! It’s perfect for breakfast, for dinner and everything in between! We love sausage when it’s roasted with cabbage and of course, it’s amazing with all the fresh eggs we get from our chickens. Making homemade venison sausage seemed like a logical step to take when we started homesteading. It’s just as delicious as the venison jerky we shared earlier but does require a bit more work. Trust me, it’s worth it! *Note – This recipe is for non-smoked sausage although we add some smoke flavor they do have to be cooked thoroughly before eating. Jerky is one of those snacks that everyone in the family loves. It also happens to be pretty expensive and a lot of people feel that it is either too complicated or too time-consuming to make on their own. While it can be time-consuming I’m happy to say that it is far from complicated! The jerky that we have been making lately is venison jerky but if you don’t have access to deer meat you can substitute beef with similar results. Homemade venison jerky is delicious however and if you can get your hands on some deer I highly suggest giving it a try! ThisRead More →

Everyone loves milkshakes! And, St’ Patrick’s Day is the realm of the Shamrock shake. If you love mint and ice cream then this is something you might look forward to year after year. Unfortunately, like all milkshakes, Shamrock shakes are hardly keto. When we choose to follow a healthier way of eating we sometimes leave behind treats we love. Thankfully I have found Keto to be one of the most versatile when it comes to reworking old treats into newer healthier versions. These keto shamrock shakes are no exception! They are not only delicious but super simple to make! Keto Shamrock Shake, St Patrick’s DayRead More →

Before we started following a keto lifestyle and way of eating our family was a big fan of sandwiches. A lot of families are – and with good reason! Sandwiches are easy and cheap to make, highly customizable so even your pickiest kid is happy and there are perfect options for just about every season! Of course, once we ditched the bread sandwiches became a little harder. There are low carb wraps of course, like the ones we use in our keto grilled cheese and mixes like Carbquick can be useful when you want to make a quick hamburger bun. But, when you want somethingRead More →
