I don’t know about you guys but around here my morning cup of coffee pretty much dictates how the rest of the day is going to go! Nothing like waking up at 5:45 in the morning to feed the critters and finding out that someone used the last of the heavy whipping cream the night before. I’m looking at you kids with your fancy late-night hot chocolate! It’s also disappointing to find out that there is no more good coffee left and there is a pretty big difference between the ‘good’ coffee and the emergency tub of coffee that’s been in the back of theRead More →

It’s officially Fall here on the homestead and with the cooler temperatures, it’s the perfect time to start working on some outdoor projects. It’s also the time to start planning for Spring, which seems a bit crazy but chicks hatched now will be laying by early spring and the lack of demand for fertile eggs makes this the perfect time to hatch out chicks that I can keep for my own breeding programs or sell as started pullets later on. Fall is the perfect time to start all the background work necessary for spring projects. Since last year was a learning and growing year forRead More →

My kids love going to the movies. Popcorn, big screens, and the perfect movie were how we celebrated quite a few summer vacations. While some of their movie choices were dubious, I have to say that I wasn’t disappointed with this year’s selection. If you have young girls then there is a pretty good chance that they love horses and if you happened to be a young girl in the early 2000s then there is a pretty good chance that you’ll recognize the Spirit franchise. As a rabid horse girl, I loved Spirit and I watched the original with both of my girls pretty muchRead More →

Many children love playing with the latest electronic toys and devices. With new consoles being released, as well as virtual reality systems, and even robotic, interactive pets, children are now spoiled for choice on battery-operated fun. Sadly, a lot of parents end up nearly tearing their hair out at trying to prevent their kids’ addiction to video games, as well as the madness that sets in from hearing the same electronic noises for the 6th hour on repeat. Due to this, you may wish to consider leaving the tech toys out of the equation for birthdays and other holidays this year. There are many alternativesRead More →

I love Halloween! For as long as I can remember Halloween has been my favorite holiday. I mean, I love Christmas too but there’s something about being able to dress up and become whatever you want for one day that’s extra fun. Coming up with a costume and then going out trick or treating was pretty much the highlight of my year growing up. Plus candy, when your a kid the allure of candy is hard to resist! Of course this year things are a little bit different and while our community hasn’t outright banned Trick or Treating yet, I just don’t see how IRead More →

Settling into the homesteading life has been both challenging and rewarding! I’m happy to say that the kids love it so far and I’m a pretty big fan myself! I’m pretty sure even my husband has enjoyed expanding his woodworking skills when I badger him about building yet one more thing. It’s become pretty apparent that there will always be something to build, fix, or improve upon while we set up and learn! But that’s half the fun of it all! The kids have jumped in full force and participate in the morning and afternoon chores which I am grateful for as there are aRead More →
