I don’t know about you guys but around here my morning cup of coffee pretty much dictates how the rest of the day is going to go! Nothing like waking up at 5:45 in the morning to feed the critters and finding out that someone used the last of the heavy whipping cream the night before. I’m looking at you kids with your fancy late-night hot chocolate! It’s also disappointing to find out that there is no more good coffee left and there is a pretty big difference between the ‘good’ coffee and the emergency tub of coffee that’s been in the back of theRead More →

My kids love going to the movies. Popcorn, big screens, and the perfect movie were how we celebrated quite a few summer vacations. While some of their movie choices were dubious, I have to say that I wasn’t disappointed with this year’s selection. If you have young girls then there is a pretty good chance that they love horses and if you happened to be a young girl in the early 2000s then there is a pretty good chance that you’ll recognize the Spirit franchise. As a rabid horse girl, I loved Spirit and I watched the original with both of my girls pretty muchRead More →

If you have pets then there is little doubt that they have managed to worm their way into your heartstrings. Those little (sometimes big!) balls of fluff and feathers are always there to greet us with unconditional love and company no matter what is going on in the world around us. It’s been a challenging year (almost a year and a half really) and with all the extra time we’ve spent at home, I think a lot of us have become closer to our furry companions. Pets are like family to a lot of people and just like we love hanging pictures of our familyRead More →

I love to let my birds roam the property but there are times when they need to be contained. This might be because we are introducing some new birds to the flock, I’m trying to keep them out of a certain area (like my garden), or because a few of them have been misbehaving. If you read our last homesteading update you might have seen that our ducks have been being a little bratty. They have started to explore a bit closer to the road than I like and no matter how many times I herd them back they keep trying. Enter portable poultry fencing,Read More →

As part of our homesteading journey, we want to explore a lot of different DIY self-sufficient projects! In fact, part of the reason I got the two goats was with the intention of milking them when they came of age! With homegrown milk comes the option to make homemade cheese! Of course, we won’t be able to make cheese from our goat’s milk for a while longer, perhaps next fall. But that wasn’t going to stop me from trying things out a bit early and it turns out that making your own homemade cheese – while a bit time consuming, isn’t very hard at all!Read More →

Instagram is a fun social media platform if you happen to love taking, editing, and looking at great pictures. There is no doubt that it can be a great way to engage with your readers as a blogger and let them see a bit more of who you are in the process! The creative side of Instagram is a lot of fun and I have away’s enjoyed trying to create beautiful content to share on my feed. However, I also have to balance this content creation with time management – there are only so many hours in a day and a lot of tasks toRead More →

Pinterest Best Practices

As a blogger, social media can play an important part in increasing your traffic and getting your posts out there for the world to see. Platforms like Instagram and Pinterest can be your best friends, not only in gaining traffic but in securing the commissions and collaborations that are the goal of many bloggers who are trying to monetize their blogs. When you’re new to blogging (or even if you’ve been blogging for a while) the social media platforms can seem confusing to navigate and learn and it’s important to understand the best ways to use each one. By far and away I have foundRead More →

dealing with stress during the holiday season

A snow blower or otherwise known as a snow thrower is an equipment used to extract snow from a specific area that impedes the area’s purpose. Some examples are sidewalks, driveways, railroad tracks or roadways. The term snow blower can be deceptive to buyers; you might actually think that this machine will blow off air but in reality, it functions by use of an auger, collecting the debris and directing it to the discharge chute which will then discard it to the side. You can watch a video about it here. Or, to make it extra simple, snow will be released to the side.  SnowblowersRead More →

Giving gifts at Christmas can be just as much fun as getting them but figuring out what to buy can be a little bit challenging at times! Some people have hobbies and gifts for runners or crafters or any other hobby can be easy enough! Everyone needs and wants supplies for their passions. But what if they really only dote on their dogs? Let’s face it, we all know people who love their dogs as much as they love the rest of us! Gifts for dog lovers are thankfully in pretty good supply, dogs are man’s best friend after all so there are plenty ofRead More →

DIY soap making recipe box from Simply Earth

There is a pretty good chance that you have run across handmade DIY soaps before. We have seen them pretty frequently at craft shows and small gift shops. I even recall seeing them in many Christmas giftboxes growing up. The way they smelled and the cute little molded shapes they came in were always fun to explore. I mean who can forget the tiny rose-shaped soaps in your grandma’s bathroom? Making homemade soap seemed like the perfect addition to our try something new series so I jumped at the chance when Simply Earth offered to send me one of their recipe boxes and give it aRead More →
