I love Christmas! I love the decorations, the crafts and the act of giving gifts. Most importantly, however, I love seeing my kids as they get more and more excited about the approaching holiday. Every family has their own traditions and yearly adventures when it comes to Christmas. For my family, a large part of the season revolves around watching Christmas movies. We love getting into the Christmas Spirit by watching the various tales, both new and old. It’s a great excuse for cozy blankets, hot chocolate and family bonding time.
Since our family unplugged from cable a few years ago we have been dependant on Netflix for most of our seasonal movie nights. Thankfully they always have a pretty great line-up when it comes to Christmas! Old favorites such as Rudolph and Frosty are always on the list. But, it’s extra fun when a new movie catches our attention. This year Netflix delivered!

I always get excited when it comes to Christmas movies, they tend to be light-hearted and fun affairs. Don’t get me wrong – I love a good drama as much as anyone. But, given the busy and sometimes stress-inducing time surrounding Christmas, I tend to want something a bit more fun. There’s just something magical about a fun winter tale that really gets you into the Christmas spirit!
So, you can imagine how elated I was to be given the opportunity to view the brand new Netflix movie, The Christmas Chronicles, a little bit early! Don’t worry, it will be out for everyone on the 22nd! If you haven’t heard of The Christmas Chronicles yet I’m not going to give you any spoilers but here is the movies quick summary and trailer just to give you an idea! They sent us this adorable little package of surprises too, just to help get us in the mood!
The Christmas Chronicles – About the Movie
The Christmas Chronicles is a wishful, hilarious, family festive adventure. This is our first live-action family film with a well-established director and big profile actor in Kurt Russell. From producer Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”, “Harry Potter”) and director Clay Kaytis (“The Angry Birds Movie”), The Christmas Chronicles, tells the story of sister and brother, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. After staking out Santa’s arrival, they sneak into his sleigh, cause it to crash and nearly derail Christmas. As their wild night unfolds, Kate and Teddy work together with Santa – as you’ve never seen him before – and his loyal Elves to save Christmas before it’s too late. The Christmas Chronicles premieres on Netflix, November 22, 2018!
A Family Movie Night Adventure
Family bonding time is so important! We spend so much time on the go, between school, work, house chores and our personal hobbies that sometimes finding time to do things as a family can be difficult. Having a dedicated time to sit down and spend some time together can really make us all feel a bit closer. It’s a good way to unwind, relax and enjoy some cuddles on the couch. Family movie nights are an especially great holiday tradition! Not only are they inexpensive but there’s a never-ending supply of new movies to watch.
When I was given the opportunity to view this movie I knew it would make the perfect family event! The kids hogged the couch, and the fuzziest blankets but that’s pretty typical. I swear if its soft and fuzzy they steal it quicker then I can set it out! They also laid claim to a couple pairs of the socks Netflix sent us, even though they were a bit big for such tiny feet! The Super Pretty little ornament though? That’s all mine and I can’t wait to add it to the tree!
Ways to Make Christmas Movie Night Extra Special
Getting into the Christmas spirit with an early movie night is great fun. But, if you need some extra incentive then maybe some of these tips might help.
- Break out the Seasonal Snacks – Every movie night needs some special snacks. Popcorn is always a crowd pleaser (maybe some pork rinds if your keto!) A Christmas movie night needs something extra special though! Christmas cookies or some Hot chocolate might be a good choice!
- Get Cozy– Movie nights are the perfect opportunity to break out the warm fuzzy blankets and pajamas. Bonus points if you happen to have some Christmas pajamas on hand!
- Have some Fun with it – Over the years I have somehow managed to gather a collection of fun Christmas Hats. We have some elf ear’s and hats from an ugly sweater 5k, some Santa hats from an old family picture set-up and some reindeer ears I bought for Connor. My kids love to wear them and I admit they do add a bit of fun to the night!
Do you have any family traditions to help get you in the Christmas Spirit?
I love Christmas movies so much. The Christmas Chronicles looks really good, I can’t wait to watch it my husband and son.
It was super cute, we’ve watched it twice more at the request of the kids now haha
Wow, what an awesome and exciting opportunity you’ve had here. I love Christmas movie nights, and can’t wait to get started with them. I wait until my decorations are up in December but I might have to sneak one in earlier after reading this post. So lovely and festive! 🙂
I have pulled out most of my decorations but a lack of trees has slowed down my actual decorating. Hoping to get one this weekend though! It’s a really cute movie, lots of funny bits mixed in with heartwarming moments.
I love watching Christmas movies and getting cosy, especially when it’s cold outside! Every Christmas Eve we go to the cinema to watch a film before going home to bed! X
That sounds like such a fun Christmas tradition! We always spend Christmas Eve with my husbands family and then Christmas morning with the kids so movies and such tend to be done in the days leading up to Christmas Eve.
This was such a cute post and sounds like a great film! I saw this come up on the Netflix sidebar earlier today actually, so will definitely be watching it very soon!! Our family tradition is to eat a huge cheeseboard on Christmas Eve whilst watching Nativity and Elf!

Sounds like a lot of fun! I hope you like this movie as much as we did, the kids have demanded we watch it 3 times now haha.
This is my ultimate goal!! You and your girls look so cosy, I need to set aside one night to do this! I’m not so in tune with the new things Netflix has got as I’ve not watched a lot of stuff recently but that looks really good!!

It’s still early, to be honest, my festive spirit came earlier than normal this year. I don’t usually start going Christmas crazy until partway through December. I blame the blog!
Aw this looks like such a fun and cosy way to spend an evening! I love Christmas movies and it’s super exciting for your family that you got a sneak preview of this!

It really was the kids were beyond excited and my 10-year-old might think we are famous now because we did something for Netflix haha. She’s easily impressed!
This sounds like such an amazing opportunity you had! Netflix has some great Christmas films on there, I watched on there myself last week 😁 I’ve seen this one on there but haven’t watched it yet, it does look like a great Christmas film – I’ll have to watch it!

IT was really cute, it might even be a new favorite! I might be biased due to a lot of Reindeer scenes though haha! Netflix has so many Christmas specials out, trying to pick which one to watch every day might be the hardest part.
Seasonal snacks are an essential when you’re watching a Christmas film! It looked like such a lovely evening 🙂 x
