FabFitFun Spring Box Review

fabfitfun box surrounded by flowers

I have never had a subscription box before. I certainly wanted to try one. But I felt guilty spending money on myself when I had a family to take care of. If you can relate to that feeling then I hope you also realize just how wrong that is. It took me a long time to learn this – but spending money on yourself isn’t wrong. Feeling good about yourself, doing something just for you is okay. When we feel good about ourselves we become better people. We are happier, kinder and more patient. This year I am trying very hard to work on how I feel about myself, so I signed up for one of those boxes I have always wanted. Here is my review of my first subscription box – the FabFitFun Spring Box for 2018.

FabfitFun Spring Box Review – 2018

candles and flowers

First Impressions

I don’t know about you but getting a present in the mail brings back all sorts of childhood memories. When I was a kid I loved getting mail! Cards, gifts, letters – it didn’t matter. Waiting for something to arrive and the excitement when it finally showed up are memories I will keep with me forever. When you are an adult most of what you get in the mail is bills. Or junk. It’s very rarely anything fun.

Coming back from a run and finding the FabFitFun spring box on my doorstep brought back that childhood excitement. That in and of itself made the box worthwhile to me. I had purposely been avoiding finding out what was in the box beforehand, I wanted to keep it all a wonderful surprise. The box was the size expected and very well packaged.

The items inside were well wrapped and damage free. The box was also packed full! This was no huge box with only a few small items inside. But that was one of the reason’s I picked FabFitFun in the first place. I wanted real items – not item samples! And I was not disappointed. I signed up for the FabFitFun spring box using the basic package but after receiving this box, I am seriously considering the annual select membership.

If you are intrigued enough to try the fabfitfun spring box out but also want to keep it a surprise then you should probably stop reading after this section of the post. Box Contents

As I said above, my box was packed full. I was pretty surprised at the number of items included. All told I received nine items in my box. I also got a coupon to try Hello Fresh, a sponsored sample from Dove and a nice little newsletter/magazine from FabFitFun which told me more about all the products in my box.

Reading the newsletter was fun, it not only gave tips on how to use some of the products in the box but also told the stories behind the items. I love hearing these behind the scenes stories about the companies whose products I am using.

Two of the items in my box I knew ahead of time. In every box, there are certain items you are allowed to customize when you order. Select members get a few more customization choices. There are also add-on items you can choose to add to your order. These items are offered at a high discount and completely optional. Since I wanted to experience the fabfitfun spring box as a brand new basic user I did not add any items this time around (maybe next time though!).

Customized Items

Maya Brenner Designs – LOVE Bracelet

When ordering my box I had the choice between this bracelet (in Silver or Rose Gold) or some tassel earrings (in black or pink). Both choices were beautiful but I ultimately went with the rose gold bracelet. I need more gold jewelry in my collection and I don’t have pierced ears so it was an easy choice.

I wore this bracelet the first night I received it. It’s very dainty and delicate. If you like feminine and elegant jewelry then you will love this bracelet. It’s simple enough to be worn in everyday outfits and still stylish enough to pair with more formal attire.

KORRES Guava Body Butter

This body butter was my second customization choice. This item was a bit harder to choose. I had the choice between the body butter and some lip masks. Now, I have never really been a person drawn to beauty products. My interest in makeup and all things of that nature is a recent development. It wasn’t until I started feeling better about myself that I started having an interest in beauty products. I had never tried either body butter or a lip mask before.

I couldn’t really see myself wanting puffier lips so I went with the body butter. First of all, I think I made the right choice. The smell of this stuff is … amazing. It’s like infusing your skin with a subtle hint of the tropics.  The lotion makes my skin feel soft without leaving an oily residue (something I have always hated) and seems to work well. My skin doesn’t seem to be as dry as normal – but I have only used it a few times so its hard to tell. Honestly, I would slather it on after a shower for the smell alone.

Suprise Items

As stated above I took great pains to keep from being spoiled on these items, It was like trying to avoid finale spoilers the day after a popular TV show airs. Lots of fast scrolling and social media avoidance. This is your last chance to go and order your fabfitfun spring box before being spoiled. Fair warning! Still here? Okay!

Rachel Pally Reversible Clutch

a clutch purse from the fabfitfun spring box

According to the newsletter, this clutch came in three color variations. The variation I got was called Paradise and I loved it the moment I laid eyes on it. The clutch is soft to touch and very spring oriented colorwise. I even loved the fun little tassel on the zipper.

What I love most about the clutch, however, is that it’s reversible. On one side is a beautiful and colorful print, on the other a solid refreshing color. It might not go with every spring outfit I own but it will go with quite a few of them! It’s a good size too, this is no tiny clutch that can barely hold your keys. I took it with me to a parent/teacher conference just to try it out and this thing held my large wallet, smartphone, house keys and other necessities with no problem.  I can easily see it holding a paperback book and make-up collection with ease.

Anderson Lilley – Sunset Collection Candle

a candle and eye mask from fabfitfun spring box

Like the clutch, this candle came in three scent variations. The version I received is called Manhatten Beach. I think my husband was more excited for the candle then I was – but he is a candle fanatic. I have to say I love the copper vessel the candle comes in and when the candle is gone I was be cleaning it out and repurposing it somewhere! The scent is subtle and not overpowering, which I like and lends itself to a light, spring feeling in the house.

Although we have only burned this candle for a small duration, it seems like it is going to last a while. This is not a tiny small tea light, it’s a good sized candle and seems to burn evenly. No wick drowning in melted wax making it hard to light here!

Free People x Understated Leather – Starry Eyed Travel Eye Mask

I haven’t gotten the chance to try this product out yet (although with the time change I probably will soon!). However, the newsletter says that this is a vegan eye mask with a removable non-toxic cooling insert. Given the pollen in the air and spring allergies, I have a feeling this little mask will soon come in quite handy.

I love that the back of this mask is very soft and the strap is easily adjustable. It will be a nice little perk me up for my eyes on those days where the kids refuse to sleep or the pollen makes me look like a sea hag in the morning. Like the clutch and the candle, there were three variations you could get. The one I got was grey with silver and gold stars.

Murad – Skin Perfecting Lotion

Just like the body butter, I was a bit skeptical about this product. Lotions and moisturizers were something I had never paid much attention too. However, since I started wearing makeup I have noticed a few issues with my skin. My pores sometimes show up more then I would like and I have a natural redness that can be irritating to cover up. This lotion claims to deal with both those problems.

I have only used this a few times, it’s too early to say if it works as intended or not. I WILL say that it does not leave an oily residue on my skin and seems to blend in well. It does not have a chemical smell but a very subtle natural scent which I like. I hate putting things on my face with harsh scents so this was a big plus for me. I will keep using this product to see how it performs over time but it seems promising.

ISH Lip Statement Palette

I am kind of embarrassed to say this, given my previous anti-makeup roots but I was really excited to try this palette out. My lipstick collection is woefully understaffed I had bright red and pale pink. that was it.  I was very pleased to find an entire collection of new colors in my box. This palette ranges from nudes to pinks to reds and seems to have a shade for almost any outfit.

The newsletter article about this item even gives you tips on how to blend the colors for even more options. Eleven colors to work with gives you a lot of customization. I tried out one of the pale pink shades the night I got this box. The lipstick went on smoothly with the little brush they give you and, even better, it did not dry tacky and stuck around for the rest of the night.  I think I am going to enjoy experimenting with the colors in this set!

Dermelect Cosmeceuticals – Makeover Concealing Ridge Filler

Okay, so my nails? Neglected terribly. They are short. I bite them. It’s awful. But with spring here and my newfound improved body image … I kind of want to attempt making them look better. I haven’t tried this product yet but with the state of my nail’s I can’t see how this is a bad product to have. First to stop biting them, then to use this product and see how nice I can make them! Think I can do it? I’ll keep you updated!

Physique 57 Massage Roller

Since our household has started living a more active lifestyle – running, yoga and now a bit of weightlifting, I feel like this product has entered my life at just the right moment. It feels great on sore muscles and honestly, I think it would work wonders on tired muscles from standing at work all day or even sore muscles from sleeping awkwardly. It’s something I probably wouldn’t have thought to buy on my own – but now that I have one I am really glad I have it!

The kids get a kick out of the way it feels and keep trying to steal it.

Bonus Samples

So apparently your box sometimes contains a few bonus items. This time around I got a coupon for Hello Fresh (which sadly will not get used since they don’t have Keto options – at least last time I checked) and a sample of Dove’s exfoliating body polish.

I mostly wanted to mention the body polish here. It is made with crushed macadamia and rice milk and like the Korres guava body butter, it smells like heaven in a packet. I will be looking for more of this asap.

I have considered Birchbox! I miiight be turning into a subscription box addict.

  2. These sound like some awesome items! I’m subscribed to Sephora Play, and I always look forward to getting my box. It’s so exciting to get to try out new things that you might not necessarily try!

    1. Author

I have never heard of that box! I will have to look into it!

  3. I’ve only seen subscription boxes with samples or smaller items, so love the fact this one is full sized items! great post, thank you!

    1. Author

That’s exactly why I picked it! If I am going to spend money on it then I wanted the real deal items =-)

  4. I have to admit I’m the same about spending money on myself and rarely splurge on me-I’m trying to get better! This subscription box looks fantastic- I’m loving the clutch bag and the candle is very cute too! Your photos are fabulous too ❤️

Thanks so much! I have been working on my photography! I have to admit it was hard to press that button and commit to spending the money, but now that I have the box it just feels so nice! It was worth it for sure.

  5. I’m so glad you had this for yourself. It’s so important to celebrate us once in a while isn’t it? And getting a package in the mail always makes me feel giddy:) I do most of my shopping online so it’s an added bonus. This box out of the ones I have seen seem really divers and fun. I love the Murad skin products and the little clutch looks lovely. I hope you enjoy this as you deserve too.

    1. Author

It’s very important! And I think its something we tend to neglect once we start having families. It’s great to put so much into our families, but we need to remember ourselves too! Online shopping has become a staple at our house too. It’s just so convenient, especially at Christmas when I don’t have to try and hide things in the cart or the back of the car haha

  6. I love boxes like this and seeing the suprises inside, makes me feel like a kid ha! I don’t really get presents on birthdays etc so I really love things like this.
The bracelet & the bag are the things that stood out to me the most and makes the box seem like such good value. It’s not vegan so I won’t be trying it but it looks great for others who aren’t.

I know what you mean about birthdays and such! As we get older those days kind of fall by the wayside! Once in a while it’s nice to treat yourself =-)

      1. Yeah it definitely reached that point as soon as I hit my twenties. Which have gone so fast! But I treat myself when I can which is always a good thing & something I encourage 😊💗x

  7. I’m in love with copper right now, so that candle is right up my street! X

    1. Author

Copper is in this year according to the little magazine they gave me so your not alone with your obsession! It’s really pretty on my table and smells heavenly too!

  8. This looks like a really nice subscription box. I adore the candle. Well done for treating yourself, self care is so important x

    1. Author

Self care is super important and I have ignored it for far too long. I think too many of us do! I love everything that came in my box and can’t wait for the Summer one. The candle holder I think will be turned into a plant holder once the candle is gone! It’s far to pretty to not do something with!

  9. I have been eyeing these boxes for a while! There were so many great items within it. Sometimes we need to treat ourselves. 😉

    1. Author

We most definitely do! I eyed them for a long time before trying to them too. I really wasn’t disappointed!

  10. OOH nice!! I also love that clutch and the lip colours. I agree, i also feel so guilty about spoiling myself but I guess it’s ok if you spoil the rest of the family occasionally too!

    1. Author

The lip colors are amazing. Also, they don’t wear off. I can wear lipstick and drink my coffee without turning the rim pink which is excellent! I am slowly getting over the feelings of guilt. Everyone deserves a bit of extra love once in a while =-)

  11. What a wonderful way to indulge in a little self care. Lovely idea to have a monthly treat posted to yourself x

    1. Author

It really does! I was super impressed at the variety in the box!

  12. This box looks like fun. Would be lovely to receive something like this every month.

    1. Author

It really did give me a nice pick me up! It’s so fun to get a box of surprises!

  13. Wow this looks like a great sub box! I would love to subscribe to something similar but like you say I always struggle to justify the money…I might reconsider!

    1. Author

I know how you feel! It’s hard to spend money on myself, but I will spend it on the kids or the husband at the drop of a hat!
