Here are some ideas:
- Take the kids for ice cream. No child in the world would refuse ice cream on a hot summer’s day. This is a great activity for kids that parents can easily monitor.
- Picnic at the park. It’s fun, inviting a group of kids to have a picnic together at a local park. Just make sure you find some big ol’ tree and spend the whole day there in the shade.
- Murals with chalk on the sidewalk. Prepare some interesting colored chalks for your children, you can create some very interesting chalk murals and designs. Just make sure it’s allowed in your neighborhood.
- Camping in the backyard. Your child may be too young to camp in a campground or park, but why not start in the backyard? This is a great way to prepare them for the outdoors.
- Visit the local county fair. Most major cities hold some type of carnival or county fair that will make your children happy. Candyfloss, rides, treats, fun.
- Baseball with water balloons. Sometimes when you combine summer activities, it can be an exciting way to play outside. Just take a bat and fill balloons with water. Now you can swing to your heart’s content.
- DIY bird feeder. A child-friendly bird feeder just uses peanut butter-coated toilet paper rolls, rolled into bird seeds. After hanging it on a branch, your child can watch the birds come and eat.
- Visit your local library. The library has more than just children’s books. Many of them have other activities and toys designed for each age group. They also provide educational audiobooks and computer games.
- Paint or draw on rocks. Are there stones everywhere in your garden or fence? Draw faces or design patterns on the rocks with your children and have fun. You can use them as door stops or paperweights.
- Water spray gun for water-based paint. Use watercolor paper, watercolor painting, easel, and airbrush to paint as you shoot The easel is used to fix the paper when shooting. Be careful not to get sprayed.
- DIY sponge ball. This is a great home game or yard toss. Buy some fun sponges or use the ones you own. Dip them in soap and water and get ready to soak in the hot summer fun.
- Horseshoe from paper plates. Cut the outside of the paper plates, have your child paint them, and throw them on a grounded paper towel roll. This is a great summer children’s game or rainy day activity.
- Finish a puzzle together. When looking for the right puzzle, be sure to look for the appropriate age group indicator. There are specific difficulty levels and having a six-year old build a 3200 piece puzzle might be challenging, fun nevertheless, but challenging. This may be a good time to connect with your child and solve problems together.
