Earth Day activities for families

For last years Earth Day family activities the kids and I made Flower Seed bombs and while they were a huge hit I wanted to do something a bit different. Every year I envy the houses in the neighborhood with hanging plants on the front porch. There is just something so inviting and homey about it. Most people choose ferns or petunias but I still wanted to do something to help our local wildlife. So the kids and I decided to plant a wildflower selection in our hanging pots. emergency preparation for famlies

Being prepared for an emergency isn’t just for preppers in today’s world. Everything in our lives is so convenient that it is easy to forget how quickly one small thing could make it all very troublesome. My family and I were recently reminded of this when the local water tank exploded due to a faulty pressure valve. The entire neighborhood was without water from 8 pm one night until nearly 10 pm the next night. A day without water might not register as a full-blown emergency but it certainly made our lives somewhat difficult, I was melting ice cubes from the freezer to waterRead More →

How Star wars changed my life

I still remember the first time I saw A New Hope. I must have been around 10 or 11 and my father popped it into the VCR, I remember that I didn’t really want to watch it, at that time I was far more into cartoons than live action movies. But within a few minutes, all of that changed. From that moment I was a Star Wars fan for life. I remember begging him to watch all three movies in one night, I didn’t care that it was a school night I needed to know what happened! But he was adamant, we would watch oneRead More →

Our family spends a lot of time together. I can probably count on one hand the number of times my husband and I have been without the kids. However, I can’t deny that I get to spend more time with them then he does. Since I am a stay at home mom I get to spend all day with them in the summers and on holidays while my husband works. By necessity, he sometimes misses out on fun activities and special moments. I try to capture it on video or in photos, but it’s not really the same. It’s a sacrifice he makes to supportRead More →

Easter fun

When it comes to Easter, our family tends to keep things simple. We don’t go all out on a big fancy dinner or spend a fortune on gifts. Easter fun for our family is more about spending time together then spending money. While I enjoy the large-scale celebrations of the other holidays sometime’s it’s nice to have a simple holiday to look forward to. A holiday that is low key and stress-free with plenty of family fun and quality time. Easter celebrations in our family start the day before with Egg dyeing. Dyeing eggs can be messy, especially with young kids who don’t have theRead More →

Learning that there can be beauty in imperfection can be a hard lesson. Several years ago now my husband got a phone call that no one ever wants to get. “Your mommom’s not doing well, you had better come quickly.” and so off to Florida we went to say our goodbyes and although they had not seen one another recently they had been close when he was younger and the loss hit him hard. Shortly after, we helped to clean out her house. As a young couple with not much to our name, we were offered a lot of the furniture. It was appreciated andRead More →
