A few months ago my husband called me up with some information I was skeptical about at first. Like many people, he had been wanting to lose some weight for a very long time. We had tried prescription medication (Phentermine) from the Dr, portion control, attempting to just eat healthier, Slim Fast and other programs in the past and nothing worked. If we did lose weight it would come right back. Keto changed everything. This post may contain affiliate links. One of the changes our family made last year was to adopt a more active lifestyle. As part of that, we took up hiking. Hiking has been great for our family, it is an activity that everyone can enjoy together (even the family dog in most parks!) and requires only the most basic of equipment. Hiking is the perfect ‘get back to nature’ activity and our kids love spotting local wildlife and plants. The trick to hiking is finding great trails. Thankfully, there are a lot of State and National Parks which offer trails and require only a small parking fee for entrance. Reed Bingham State ParkRead More →

The last few months have been a series of drastic changes for my family and me. All of these changes have been for the better and I am sincerely hoping that they are changes that I will be able to build on in the coming year. A new year is a fresh start, and although it is not a magical charm that will ensure your success it is a time to look forward, to forget about the previous year’s mistakes and build on the good points. New Year. New Me. New You! In the last six months, my family has changed our entire lifestyle. WeRead More →

It has been raining here off and on for the past two weeks, with the kids out of school and trapped in the house I think we were all going a little bit stir-crazy. The kids were tired of their toys, their T.V shows and (gasp) even their video games! This was not going to bode well for me or the household in general. Thankfully with a little bit of thought, I was able to occupy them for hours at no cost. This simple cure for summer break boredom meant I was able to get the laundry in, do the dishes and even watch somethingRead More →

World Environment Day occurs on the 5th of June every year. Started in 1974 World Environment Day (WED) is an annual campaign to raise awareness about emerging environmental issues. World Environment day has participation from 143 countries worldwide and a new theme every year that companies, celebrities, and countries adopt to raise awareness for. The theme for 2017 is ‘Connecting People to Nature – in the city and on the land, from the poles to the equator’. Why should I care about Environment Day? The big question in today’s society however is, why should I care? Everywhere we look there are opposing viewpoints when itRead More →

We recently went to visit a T-Rex Planet animatronic dinosaur show in our home city. I heard about these shows several times in the past but they were always too far away for us to enjoy. When I was alerted to this one I just couldn’t pass it up – especially since our youngest had recently gone through a Dino-loving phase and my oldest has been obsessed with a dinosaur based survival game. Is it worth the money? The T-rex Planet dinosaur show can seem a little bit pricey for families, especially if you have more than one child. At a cost of $25 dollarsRead More →

We all have those weeks, you know what I’m talking about – those weeks where the internet stops working and the kids get into a fight just as tech support finally answers, those weeks where your husband brings home stress from work or plans just keep falling apart no matter how hard you try and hold them together. Stress never seems to come in a manageable amount, when life decides to stress you out it likes to pile it on until even the smallest inconvenience seems to hard to bare. When you are stressed out it is easy to look at life and ask ‘whyRead More →

Tired of staring at your kitchen cupboards every night and trying to figure out what to cook? Me too! That’s why I started planning our family meals out in advance with this easy to use meal planner. Evenings got a lot simpler when I could wake up in the morning, know what needed to be dethawed or prepared and then go about my merry way without the hassle of that evening ‘What do you want for dinner?’ questionnaire. Family meal planners are not a new thing, but I could never find one that suited my needs exactly. They were all close but not quite whatRead More →

emergency preparation for famlies

Being prepared for an emergency isn’t just for preppers in today’s world. Everything in our lives is so convenient that it is easy to forget how quickly one small thing could make it all very troublesome. My family and I were recently reminded of this when the local water tank exploded due to a faulty pressure valve. The entire neighborhood was without water from 8 pm one night until nearly 10 pm the next night. A day without water might not register as a full-blown emergency but it certainly made our lives somewhat difficult, I was melting ice cubes from the freezer to waterRead More →

Some of you might have read my post about Couponing a while back and I am certainly an avid Couponer. I love coupons, but sometimes the sales don’t match up with what my family needs, or my family just doesn’t enjoy the items I happen to have coupons for. When that happens its good to have other methods of saving money at the grocery stores. Here are a few tips and tricks I’ve learned for those non-coupon shopping trips. 1: Stick to the outside of the store – Produce, Meat & Dairy are generally the departments that ring the outside of the grocery store, theyRead More →
