review of the renaissance resort at world golf village

I can’t remember the last time that our family got to go on a real deal vacation! For the most part, we fill our summers with day trips and local attractions. There are many fun memories to be made, but a part of me has always wanted to see something new. Thanks to the wonderful Marriot rewards program and the points my husband has managed to accumulate while traveling for work, we were able to stay at this beautiful resort. I couldn’t have imagined a nicer getaway. I knew as soon as we left that I had to do a review of the Renaissance ResortRead More →

your summer of almost free family fun, beach picture

Summer is the perfect time to get outside, soak up the rays, live life to the fullest and stay out later than normal (say, 9:15 instead of 9:00 – crazy right?). The issue is, while summer is meant to be a time of fun-filled family adventure, it’s also a constant reminder that you could be having way more fun if you had a bank balance that allowed it. We all stare wistfully at the vacation pictures our friends post on the various social media outlets. But, Don’t worry, this can be your summer of almost free fun! If you’re like our family, you’re already wonderingRead More →

whole family active

We may as well be honest with ourselves. We could all stand to be a little healthier in our day to day lives. Likewise, we could all stand to spend more time together as a family; engaging in a balanced diet of activities which will not only enrich our lives and bring us closer together but ensure that we are as fit and healthy as we can be. Given that most of us spend 8-10 hours a day sitting (which can have some pretty serious repercussions for our health) in an air-conditioned office under fluorescent lighting, by the time we get home from work mostRead More →

a rushing stream

Making fathers day special can be a bit of a challenge in our house! Although we don’t do anything expensive for Mother’s or Father’s day we do try to make it special. Since Mother’s Day falls during the school year it’s pretty simple. The kids always make things for me at school and I take the night off cooking while my husband BBQ’s. But, Father’s day falls when my kids are out of school, so he misses out on the cute things they would be bringing home. Last year the school held a Donuts with Dad day right before school let out. But this year,Read More →

Earth Day activities for families

For last years Earth Day family activities the kids and I made Flower Seed bombs and while they were a huge hit I wanted to do something a bit different. Every year I envy the houses in the neighborhood with hanging plants on the front porch. There is just something so inviting and homey about it. Most people choose ferns or petunias but I still wanted to do something to help our local wildlife. So the kids and I decided to plant a wildflower selection in our hanging pots. A Succulent plant in a green pot Planted in honor of St Patrick's day.

St Patrick’s day is often a day celebrated with parades, festivals, wearing green and (if you’re lucky) some traditional Irish music. Although no one in my family is of Irish Heritage I still find it fun to do a little something for the holiday. Since the holiday coincides so nicely with Spring it was decided that we would ‘Plant Something Green’ this St Patrick’s Day. Although this might be slightly untraditional, I like plants. Plants are good for your home, your health, and the planet. Growing something to celebrate a holiday seem’s like a great option to me! Plus they fit the whole ‘Green’ themeRead More →

Earlier this month my daughter missed out on a school party due to the flu. In fact, we all got the flu, how fun right? But it wasn’t being sick that bothered her so much as missing out on the party with friends. To try and make up for it I promised that she could create her own party snacks to share with her sister. Because we are trying to be a little bit healthier as a family, snacks like these are rare so this was a suitable pick me up in her eyes. These snacks are not Keto Friendly and so my husband and IRead More →

One of the changes our family made last year was to adopt a more active lifestyle. As part of that, we took up hiking. Hiking has been great for our family, it is an activity that everyone can enjoy together (even the family dog in most parks!) and requires only the most basic of equipment. Hiking is the perfect ‘get back to nature’ activity and our kids love spotting local wildlife and plants. The trick to hiking is finding great trails. Thankfully, there are a lot of State and National Parks which offer trails and require only a small parking fee for entrance. Reed Bingham State ParkRead More →

It has been raining here off and on for the past two weeks, with the kids out of school and trapped in the house I think we were all going a little bit stir-crazy. The kids were tired of their toys, their T.V shows and (gasp) even their video games! This was not going to bode well for me or the household in general. Thankfully with a little bit of thought, I was able to occupy them for hours at no cost. This simple cure for summer break boredom meant I was able to get the laundry in, do the dishes and even watch somethingRead More →
